Jeremy Clarkson’s daughter breaks silence on parents’ ‘weird’ split as she makes rare family confession: ‘Not talked about this!’
Emily Clarkson has spoken publicly for the first time about her parents’ divorce, describing the 2014 split as “weird” during an episode of her podcast Should I Delete That? with co-host Alex Light.
The 30-year-old author and podcaster reflected on the challenges of navigating her parents’ separation whilst it played out in the public eye due to her father Jeremy Clarkson’s Top Gear fame.
“My parents got separated publicly, like it all happened quite publicly, and it’s a really weird thing as a kid. It’s weird as a kid to read something that you’re upset about,” she said during the conversation about relationships.
Jeremy Clarkson and Frances Cain were married from 1993 until their separation in 2014, having three children together during their 21-year marriage.
She continued: “As an adult, I can be like – I’ve literally not talked about this so it’s really weird I’m bringing it up now – but it’s a really weird thing as a kid.
“Obviously, my parents were busy getting divorced, so no-one talks to you about the press element because they’re just going to talk about themselves, about their situation.
“You know, you focus on the big fire which is in the house, rather than what it looks like from outside or whatever,” she conceded.
Despite the difficulties surrounding her parents’ divorce, Emily has developed a warm relationship with her father’s current partner, Lisa Hogan.
The positive connection extends both ways, with Lisa expressing how touched she was by Emily’s kind words about her daughter on a previous episode of the podcast.
“Emily has this podcast called Shall I Delete That? and she spoke about my daughter in such a sweet way that I burst out crying,” Lisa told the Daily Mail.
The two families have built strong bonds over the years. “They’ve known each other for nine years, and I think they really care about each other,” Hogan added.
Elsewhere in the latest podcast with guest Kate Ferdinand, Emily delved into her own parenthood struggles after welcoming two children with her husband, Alex Andrew.
“I really love being a mum, like I just can’t say it any other way,” she beamed. “Even when it’s horrible, I really love it.
“I had really bad pregnancies with both of them. So that was really hard, but this bit, I just love,” she added. Emily is the mother to a two-year-old, Arlo Rose, and a six-month-old, Xanthe.

Throughout her pregnancies, the 30-year-old battled with hyperemesis gravidarum, which is prolonged and severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.
In another candid conversation, Emily opened up about her hopes for her young family should the worst ever happen and they have to cope without her.
“I’ve said to Alex that I want to be, if I die, I want to be ashes, I don’t want to be buried, but I want to be left somewhere that the kids can come to me,” she admitted. “Ideally, I’d stay in the house.”
Opening up about the Clarkson family’s previous grief struggles, she said: “When one of our dogs died, we left her in the kitchen and it’s really nice because for ages, you can still talk to it and now all of their dogs are in the kitchen – not their bodies, their ashes!
“When I walk past them, I still say hi to them, and I really like that. So I’ve always said, ‘Just leave me somewhere that I can be present’.
“I’ve said to him do what you want, move on and find someone and he says I don’t want to and I’m like don’t be stupid because it’s a long life but, let the record show, I want to be somewhere in the house so that i can just be part of it.”
Away from her parents’ marriage, her father’s relationship history includes a brief first marriage to Alex Hall in 1989, which ended after just six months when she left him for one of his friends.
Following his divorce from Frances Cain in 2014, Clarkson began a relationship with Irish-born former actress and screenplay writer Hogan in 2017.
Lisa, who features in his Amazon Prime series Clarkson’s Farm, was previously married to millionaire tycoon Baron Steven Bentinck for 30 years and has three children from that marriage.
The couple met through mutual friends at an event, with their relationship now spanning over seven years as they work together on the popular farming documentary series.
