BBC Bargain Hunt’s Philip Serrell shares devastating family loss as fans flood star with support
BBC Bargain Hunt star Philip Serrell has been flooded with support after sharing some heartbreaking news.
The auctioneer and antiques expert, 71, is also a regular on BBC’s Flog It! as well as Antiques Road Trip, and while private away from the cameras, has been known to share family updates with followers on social media.
On Saturday, July 5, the antiques expert posted on X to share the news his beloved family dog, Daphne, had died.
Alongside an adorable picture of Daphne sitting in a paw print decorated blanket, he wrote: “We lost our mate – Daphne – today,” tagging his daughter, Clementine, in the post.
Later, Serrell also shared a still from the credits at the end of an episode the pooch had featured in, with her name listed along side Serrell’s under “Experts”.
He quipped: “Not just a dog but an antique hunting hound as well.”
Within a matter of minutes of sharing the posts, Serrell’s account was awash with supportive messages from fans.
One person shared” Ah man. Sorry to hear Phil,” prompting the BBC favourite to reply: “Thank you. It’s pants.”
A second penned: “Condolences to you and family,” while another wrote: “I’m so sorry to hear this sad news. Last week I was just talking with my partner about her featuring on the Road Trip a few years ago.
“She was so beautifully behaved & would have put our dogs to shame if they had been there! Safe travels over the rainbow bridge Daphne.”
“Oh Mr Serrell we are so sorry to read this. We are sure Daphne had the best of times with the Serrell family & she was at its very centre & loved to bits. Sleep soft Daphne #GoodGirlDaphne #DogsAreFamily,” another commented.
“Oh Philip l am so sorry to hear that. She will be forever in your hearts,” a different X user added.
“So sorry for your loss,” another posted, with someone else sharing: “They take a piece of your heart with them when they go!”
“So very sorry for your loss Phil and family – it’s awful to lose a pet,” one more added.
The loss will no doubt have impacted the Serrell family, who appear to be close judging by the antiques expert’s socials.
In a happier update from back in May, he posted a jokey jibe at his daughter Clementine, 41, who had been preparing for her wedding.
He took a photo of the invitation sent to guests, which has etched on it: “The pleasure of your company is requested at the wedding of Clementine Serrell and Jorgen Deal.”
In view of his 40.1k followers on X, he penned: “I can see this proving costly…”

Clementine is Serrell’s only child with wife Briony, and the positive update came after a tough few years for the family, who revealed back in 2016 that Clementine had struggled with anorexia.
Showing off her four-year transformation, both Serrell and his daughter shared before-and-after snaps comparing 2012 to 2016 to show how far she had come.
