Bridget Jones star Leo Woodall shares ‘discomfort’ of taking on ‘heart throb’ roles: ‘Quite vulnerable’
Leo Woodall has opened up on his mixed feelings on being cast in “heart throb” parts ahead of his starring role in the upcoming Bridget Jones movie.
The 28-year-old is also preparing to helm Apple TV’s new spy thriller Prime Target.
Woodall’s first major role was his appearance on the beloved soap Holby City in 2019, but it was his starring role in Netflix’s One Day that launched his career.
Almost immediately, the actor’s life was transformed – performing on huge sets on massive productions while being in demand for interviews and photo shoots.
The actor admits the sudden change was “terrifying” but was beginning to adjust.
Speaking to RadioTimes, Woodall revealed his time in film sets was quickly becoming his “safe haven”.
His rise has not been without challenges, with the 28-year-old admitting increased press scrutiny was “the thing that scares me the most”.
Thankfully, Woodall explained that coming from a family of actors such as his father, Andrew Woodall, and stepfather, Alexander Morgan, has helped with the transition.
One area they have not been able to help with is the particular types of roles that Woodall has found himself playing.
The actor conceded that he could be described as a “heart throb” in both of his major upcoming projects.
Whether it’s the the newest love interest for Bridget Jones or a maths genius with a penchant for espionage, Woodall’s characters find themselves very much in demand.
The star admitted that, while there is fun to be had in such roles, the experience is a “mixed bag”.
“There are sides of it that can make you feel quite vulnerable and exposed. That side isn’t as fun,” Woodall explained.
The 28-year-old discussed the intense pressure and introspection of “making people buy” him as a heartthrob character.
The actor revealed he often found himself asking: “Am I that guy?”

The film sees 51-year-old Bridget Jones fall for the 29-year-old Roxter, played by Woodall.
“It’s a dynamic that has always existed in the real world,” he said of the films age dynamic.
The 28-year-old explained it was “important” for movies to portray the variety of relationships in all walks of life.
