Sunday Brunch hosts Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy were forced to issue an apology to viewers on Sunday after a celebrity guest accidentally swore live on-air
Sunday Brunch was thrown into chaos on, as presenters Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy were forced to say sorry to their audience.
They had been in conversation with King Curious, better known as Jim Sturgess, when the gifted artist shared some of his creative musings for inspiration. One being the F-word.
Keen to avoid saying it outright on live TV, Jim opted to spell it out, causing quite the stir in the studio. Unbeknownst to the singer, spelling out a swear word is also against broadcasting regulations.
In Britain, TV channels must follow stringent watershed guidelines, ensuring that explicit sexual or violent content and strong language are not broadcast before 9pm on any station, reports the Express.
Jim unbeknowingly dropped the f-bomb
Realising Jim’s accidental flouting of the rules, the two hosts tried to cut him off, loudly interjecting in an attempt to prevent viewers from catching the full spelling, but their actions were a tad too slow.
During a chat about his solo album, Jim began: “It’s hard finding a name, it’s not easy finding a name for a solo album.” To which Tim responded: “It’s cool isn’t it,” while brandishing his LP.
Jim didn’t believe he’d made an error with spelling the word out
Returning to his creative process, the artist shared: “I’d scribble like words and stuff down in my notebook so that was a big part of what I do and lyrics and passages and things. I was trying to find a name, so I came across this kind of, just a sentence that I’d written down, that said ‘I have no idea how this is going to play out but I am so f***ing….'”.
At that moment, the hosts abruptly interrupted the broadcast, both exclaiming “Woo wo woh,” loudly and in unison to cover up the explicit spelling. Unaware of his blunder live on-air, Jim continued the chat, later adding: “Someone had spilled some tea.”
Burying his face in his hands, Tim paused the interview and halted the show to apologise to the audience. The host announced: “Apologies to anyone that can spell,” as Simon burst into laughter, joking: “Lucky, it’s our viewers Tim.”
The musician looked confused and questioned: “Surely you can say that on TV? “. Tim cut in sharply, telling him: “You can’t, spelling it out doesn’t make it any better.”
Jim countered: “Well you’re not saying it out loud,” to which Tim replied: “You are, you’re spelling it out, man.”Still baffled, the songwriter scanned the studio for support.
Upon realising his mistake, he conceded to the presenters: “Well it’s said now, innit,” as they tried to stifle their laughter.
