Kate Ferdinand distracts ITV Dancing on Ice viewers as fans spot ‘awkward’ connection to contestant amid Anton support
Kate Ferdinand, 33, caused quite a stir with Dancing on Ice viewers on Sunday after making a brief cameo on-screen.
Alongside husband Rio, 46, the former Towie star was in the crowd to cheer on her beau’s brother Anton who made his DOI debut alongside Annette Dytrt.
And her brother-in-law raked a very respectable debut score of 26, placing him fourth on the Week One leaderboard ahead of fellow celebs Chris Taylor and Chelsee Healey.
While he may have failed to replicate the leaderboard-topping score of 30.5 Michaela Strachan pulled off, the crowd and judges alike were still full of praise for the former footballer.
So much so, that when Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern headed into the crowd to speak to the family and friends of this year’s cast, the Ferdinands both beamed with pride at how well the former West Ham defender did.
However, as soon as the former Towie star appeared on-screen, social media was soon awash with viewers who pointed out it may have been a rather “awkward” experience for her given her ties to one of her brother-in-law’s fellow cast mates.
While he didn’t perform in Week One, Dan Edgar is part of the Dancing on Ice line-up and was in the live studio to cheer on his fellow competitors.
Edgar and Ferdinand endured a rather tumultuous love story during the 2010s before the 33-year-old found love with her now-husband.
The pair met in Ibiza in 2010 and dated once home in Essex. It wasn’t until four years later that Edgar joined Towie and the cracks began to show.
Wright said, according to the Sun: “When (Dan) first went on TOWIE we were still together but he was telling everyone we were on and off – which obviously made me feel really stupid. Then one night he just came round my house and dumped me completely out of the blue.”
Ferdinand then joined the cast but didn’t initially rekindle a romance with Edgar as he was embroiled in a love triangle storyline with Jess Wright and Lauren Pope.
However, Edgar and Ferdinand gave their romance a second go in 2015 after Edgar told her he “didn’t stop loving” her during his love triangle saga.
But by 2016, they’d split for a second time following a disastrous trip to Mexico – although by the end of the year, a third attempt at a romance was on the cards.
Edgar and Ferdinand had a third go at romance after a Love Actually-inspired skit on the ITVBe show but in early 2017 they’d split for good amid rumours of a Rio romance and the revelation that Edgar had cheated during their relationship.
As it stands, Ferdinand is married to her husband and they share two children while Edgar is believed to be single.
With so much history between Edgar and Ferdinand, her appearance on-screen quickly sparked conversation online, with one user on X remarking: “Kate Ferdinand in the audience with her husband while Dan Edgar is in the competition, lol.. #DancingOnIce.”

“Ooh Kate Ferdinand and Dan Edgar in the same room #DancingOnIce,” a second added before a third said: “Kate Ferdinand sitting in the audience with her husband Rio while her ex Dan Edgar is appearing on the show has me howling #DancingOnIce.”
A fourth agreed: “Oh my god the internal death I just died realising Dan, Kate and Rio were all in the one room #dancingonice #towie.”
And a fifth was similarly distracted: “OH MY GOD I HAVE GASPED REALISING KATE FERDINAND IS IN THE AUDIENCE AND DAN EDGAR IS ON THIS SERIES… screaming #DancingOnIce.” (sic)
Elsewhere during Sunday’s show, Willoughby came under fire for a tribute to the late DOI contestant The Vivienne who died last week at the age of 32.
