Jeremy Clarkson blasts ‘infernal’ Rachel Reeves in scathing rant against ‘stupid’ government spending
Jeremy Clarkson has launched a scathing attack on Chancellor Rachel Reeves, branding her “infernal” and declaring that Labour’s taxation policies make his “teeth itch”.
The television presenter and farmer expressed fury over government tax plans in a recent column, taking particular aim at proposed changes to inheritance tax rules.
Mr Clarkson criticised the multiple layers of taxation British citizens face, from income tax to VAT on purchases, fuel duty, and even death duties on savings.
He reserved his harshest words for potential reforms to the seven-year gift rule, which currently allows tax-free transfers to children.

“You want to help your kids get on the property ladder. Well you can’t because that infernal woman, Rachel Reeves, has decided that it’d be better if you gave your money to her instead,” Mr Clarkson wrote in his column for The Sun.
The presenter outlined his belief that citizens face taxation at every turn, from their initial earnings through to everyday activities like purchasing petrol, visiting the hairdresser, or buying a drink at the pub.
He highlighted the current inheritance tax system, noting that even after paying tax on earnings, the government taxes those same funds again when passed to the next generation.
Under existing rules, parents can transfer money to their children without tax implications if they survive for seven years following the gift.
However, Mr Clarkson warned that the government plans to eliminate this provision, preventing families from helping younger generations onto the property ladder.
He argued that Mrs Reeves believes the state has a better claim to citizens’ money than their own children do.
To illustrate government waste, Mr Clarkson cited a £51 million park and ride scheme near his residence, funded partly through central government contributions to the local council.
The facility boasts 850 parking spaces, electric vehicle charging points, and weather shelters for commuters alongside the A40.
Despite its completion last year and impressive specifications, the site remains completely inaccessible to vehicles and buses due to a fundamental oversight.
“It’s not connected to the road network,” Mr Clarkson explained, describing how the expensive project sits unused as a “gigantic blot on the landscape”.
He argued this exemplifies how authorities squander taxpayers’ money daily throughout Britain, with the Chancellor now demanding more funds for what he termed “diversity training, and pronoun days and treats for illegal immigrants, all of the net zero nonsense”.
Mr Clarkson stated he doesn’t consider Mrs Reeves personally unpleasant but questioned the intellectual capacity of the Labour leadership team.
He specifically named Starmer, Rayner, and Lammy alongside the Chancellor, describing them as “a bit thick” with particular criticism reserved for the Foreign Secretary.
“Lammy especially. He can’t even go fishing without getting into trouble,” Mr Clarkson wrote.

He expressed particular annoyance at demands for increased taxation to fund further wasteful spending.
