BBC Saturday Kitchen interrupted by unexpected celebrity guest
BBC Saturday Kitchen experienced an unexpected interruption this morning when celebrity chef Jamie Oliver rang in during a live broadcast.
The surprise call came whilst Italian chef Gennaro Contaldo was demonstrating carbonara alongside host Matt Tebbutt.
Contaldo’s mobile phone rang mid-segment, prompting him to answer on air. Upon revealing the caller was Jamie Oliver, the studio erupted in laughter from the panel.
The beloved chef and restaurateur greeted viewers with an enthusiastic “Hello everyone!” through the speaker, drawing applause from the Saturday Kitchen team.
The impromptu moment temporarily paused the programme’s regular format.
Oliver shared details of his Saturday morning activities during the call.
“Just come back from the market,” he revealed. “I’m going to be home in two minutes and I’m going to turn the TV on.”
His comments prompted affectionate sighs from the panel, which included chef Clare Smyth, wine expert Helen McGinn and chocolatier Paul A. Young.

Matt Tebbutt quipped: “Jamie’s just been down the market, he actually lives that life. He goes down the market, buys his stuff, then goes home on his little scooter.”
The call concluded with Contaldo declaring “I love you and miss you!” to Oliver, before Tebbutt swiftly moved to the next segment.
Social media users responded enthusiastically to Contaldo’s appearance.
One viewer posted on X: “Gennaro is the GREATEST!! I had the honour and privilege to get to know him years ago during the opens of all the Jamie’s Italians.
“His passion and love is second to one. Plus his food is always perfection.”
