Lizzo, 37, admits to Ozempic use after previously denying taking weight‑loss drugs amid dramatic transformation
Pop star Lizzo has revealed she experimented with Ozempic after months of denying she used weight loss drugs.
Speaking on influencer Trisha Paytas’ “Just Trish” podcast, the 37-year-old singer admitted she “tried everything” to lose weight.
The confession comes months after she dismissed claims in September 2024 of having used Ozempic.
“When you finally get Ozempic allegations after 5 months of weight training and calorie deficit,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.
The Grammy Award winner, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, said she ultimately chose to focus on counting calories rather than taking weekly injections.
“It’s just the science for me, calories in versus calories out,” Lizzo explained during the podcast conversation. “Ozempic works because you eat less food. That’s it. It makes you feel full, so if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it’s the same s–t.”
The singer revealed she tried the medication in 2023 but decided against continuing with it.
Instead, she credited her transformation to changing her workout routine and making significant dietary adjustments.

She didn’t specify which GLP-1 brand she tried or provide details about the duration of her experimentation with the drug.
The “About Damn Time” artist revealed she abandoned her decade-long vegan diet after a trip to Japan.
“I heard the Japanese diet was the healthiest diet in the world,” she said. “My body was so happy. My body was like, ‘more, more please’.”
She explained her previous plant-based approach involved consuming “3,000 – 5,000 calories a day” through fake meats, bread and rice.
“I had to eat a lot of it to stay full,” she admitted.
Lizzo now incorporates whole foods including beef, chicken and fish into her meals.
She claimed this helps her feel satisfied without “putting a lot of fake things in there that wasn’t actually filling me up”.
Despite her personal choice to stop taking the weight loss medication, Lizzo expressed understanding towards those who use them.
“It’s not easy. It’s a drug to help somebody with something they’re struggling with,” she stated on the podcast.
The singer criticised those who shame people for using Ozempic, suggesting such attitudes stem from fatphobia. “
I think people… it’s their way of being fat phobic when you’re telling someone they’re cheating,” she said.
Lizzo emphasised the individual nature of weight loss journeys. “I don’t like to tell people too much about releasing weight like what I did because I don’t want people to do what I did and it doesn’t work for them. Everybody’s body is different.”
