BBC TV licence fee could rise as Trump tariffs threaten revenue
Donald Trump’s proposed 100 per cent tariff on foreign films could lead to an increase in the BBC licence fee, according to a warning from the shadow culture secretary.

This move threatens to severely impact BBC Studios, the corporation’s commercial arm, which generates significant revenue from American exports.
The potential financial shortfall could ultimately be passed on to British licence fee payers if the corporation loses access to lucrative US markets.
The UK Government has confirmed it is in “active discussions” with the White House regarding the proposal. BBC Studios earned £454million last year from selling productions to the American market, according to its annual report.
This substantial revenue stream could be jeopardised if Trump’s tariff proposal becomes reality.
