Channel 4 Worst House On The Street fans fume over hosts ‘utter nonsense’ advice: ‘Really not that bad’
Channel 4’s property renovation show Worst House On The Street has sparked significant viewer backlash following its latest episode featuring a Leicester property.
Viewers took to social media to express their confusion and frustration just minutes into the programme and claimed the family shouldn’t have been featured.
Many complained that sibling property experts Scarlette and Stuart Douglas exaggerated the poor condition of the house, which was purchased for £212,000.
The hosts described the 1950s detached three-bedroom house as “tired, dated, and bringing the street down” despite viewers feeling it was “already a decent property”.
Scarlette claimed the house was “in desperate need of our help” while Stuart noted it “isn’t as ancient as the castle, but it is a 1950s house”.
Not quite understanding how they came to the conclusion, viewers of the show voiced their complaints on X.

One viewer wrote: “@Channel4 I don’t understand, it’s hardly the worst house like their saying, it looks fine from the outside and not unlike all the other houses.”
Another commented: “They’re struggling to make this house seem awful when it’s not really that bad!”
A third added: “These guys want everyone to believe a traditional house is ugly… I wouldn’t walk past that house and think ‘rah that house is rough, come on guys fix up!'”
Many felt the hosts were overselling the premise to fit the show’s title despite the property appearing in reasonable condition.
One viewer complained: “No visible pendant (light) in the dining room means rewire the house? Oh good lord, this pair! Utter nonsense.”
Another stated: “I wouldn’t actually let Stuart and Scarlette in after that first visit with all their opinions about splashes of colour and doom talk.”
The criticism continued with someone else saying: “These two professionals are awful. They don’t give any real sound advice or help. And they try and force their opinion on people. It’s not your home!”
The renovation project focused on helping Lianne and her father move out of her brother Jonathan’s house.
Working with a modest budget of £25,000, which both hosts acknowledged as “tight” given her ambitious plans, Lianne faced time pressure with Jonathan’s wedding approaching.
To help stretch her budget, Scarlette and Stuart introduced Lianne to auction houses and offered advice on upcycling certain features.
The renovation took longer than anticipated, extending to 18 weeks, but remarkably stayed within budget.
Stuart admitted he was “flabbergasted” by this achievement, with the effort proving worthwhile as the final valuation came in at £292,000, a significant increase from Lianne’s total investment of £237,000.
