Punk rock group who branded UK an ‘extremely racist s*** hole’ handed taxpayer cash by Labour and described as ‘the best of British culture’
A punk rock duo who have branded the UK an “extremely racist s*** hole” have received a grant from the Labour Government.
Lambrini Girls, from Brighton, have accepted the taxpayer cash, despite stating that they think it is “embarrassing to be from England”.
The girl group will receive a share of a £1.6million grant from the Music Export Growth scheme, which is aimed at boosting British music exports.
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has described the duo as “the best of British culture”.
She said the cash fund would “help the next generation of artists to tour abroad, market themselves to new audiences and showcase the best of British culture and creativity to the world”.
A Government spokesperson said: “This Government believes in backing our incredible British artists and supports their right to freedom of expression.
“Clearly there’s work to do in persuading this particular artist to back us in return.”
The group, made up of Phoebe Lunny and Lilly Macieria, played at last year’s Glastonbury Festival.

One of their singles that they will likely use the money to promote is called ‘God’s Country’, which features lyrics that bitterly attack England.
Lunny sings: “Great Britain. Think colonial, shit-hole, chunk of land. Thriving off unhinged nationalism, fed to us by the right red hand of unelected prime ministers.
“Despite this, we have the audacity to call our country ‘Great’. So we ask you, ‘Are you sure?’
“Rishi, Cameron, Cummings, Starmer – you’re all on our shit list,” Lunny chants.
Last year, former Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch attempted to thwart a £14,250 grant to Irish rap trio Kneecap.
The group shot to notoriety in Britain due to their anti-British lyrics and political stances in their music as well as advocating for a united Irish republic.
Kneecap took legal action and won money funded by taxpayers, and when Labour came to power, they decided not to contest the discrimination case.
Last night, the group displayed a severed bronze head of King George V at concert in Melbourne, Australia.
The band addressed the incident on Instagram after the concert, writing: “Some madman dropped by with a huge King George’s head so he could hear a few tunes for our last Melbourne show.
“Allegedly his head was cut off last year in the city. Anyways, he was put on stage for a few tunes and then whisked away. Remember, every colony can fall,” they added.
