Harry Potter and Doctor Who star dies aged 63 as agent issues heartbreaking statement
Harry Potter and Doctor Who star Simon Fisher-Becker has died at the age of 63, his agent has confirmed.
The actor, known for his roles in the popular franchises, passed away on Sunday afternoon.
His death was announced by his agent Kathleen Barry of Jaffrey Management.
Fisher-Becker was perhaps best known for his role as the Fat Friar ghost in the 2001 film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
He portrayed Hufflepuff House’s resident ghost in the first instalment of the popular wizarding franchise.
The character became one of his most recognisable roles despite its brief screen time.
His portrayal of the jovial Hufflepuff ghost endeared him to Harry Potter fans worldwide.
The film marked one of his most high-profile appearances in cinema.
Beyond his Harry Potter role, Fisher-Becker was widely recognised for playing Dorium Maldovar in Doctor Who.
He appeared in seasons five and six of the beloved BBC science fiction series.

Fisher-Becker later reprised the role of Dorium Maldovar for audio productions.
He featured in Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles and Jenny — The Doctor’s Daughter podcast series.
Fisher-Becker’s talents extended beyond the wizarding and sci-fi worlds, including a stint in the Oscar-winning 2012 film Les Misérables.
The actor also starred in the BBC comedy series Puppy Love.
His extensive television work included roles in several British classics, including One Foot in the Grave, The Bill, Love Soup, and Afterlife.
Throughout his career, Fisher-Becker demonstrated versatility across different genres and productions.

Kim Barry, Fisher-Becker’s agent, shared a heartfelt statement: “Today I lost not only a client in Simon Fisher-Becker, but a close personal friend of 15 years standing.
“I shall never forget the phone call I made to him when he was offered the part of Dorium Moldovar in BBC’s Doctor Who.
“Simon was also a writer, a raconteur and a great public speaker. He helped me out enormously and was kind, gracious and interested in everyone.”
Barry extended condolences to Fisher-Becker’s husband Tony, his family and fans.
Fisher-Becker’s husband Tony confirmed the sad news on social media.
In a Facebook post, he wrote: “Hello everyone. This is Tony, Simon’s husband. I have some very sad news. At 2:50 this afternoon Simon passed away.”
He added: “I’ll be keeping this account open for a while. I’m not sure at this point if I’ll be posting again. Thank you.”
The actor’s passing at 2:50pm on Sunday afternoon has left fans and colleagues mourning his loss.
