Rod Stewart, 79, shares rare insight into family life as he posts sweet snap ahead of his 80th birthday celebrations
Sir Rod Stewart kicked off his 80th birthday celebrations early with a heartwarming family photo showing three generations sporting Celtic football shirts.
The legendary singer, who turns 80 on Friday, shared the group shot on Instagram on Sunday night with the caption “Early birthday celebrations”.
The image shows Stewart alongside his wife Penny Lancaster, 53, and six of his children, all gathered on steps whilst wearing various Celtic FC jerseys and merchandise.
The 79-year-old rock icon looked relaxed in a green and white horizontal-striped Celtic replica shirt, with his signature spiky blonde hair and red glasses tucked into his collar.
Among those present were Stewart’s children Sean, 44, Kimberly, Ruby, 37, Renee, 32, Liam, 30, Alastair, 19, and Aiden, 13.
Sean’s girlfriend Julia Stambler joined the gathering, as did Liam’s wife Nicole Artukovich, Renee’s boyfriend Adam Sumner, and Ruby’s fiancĂ© Jake Kalic.
The family photo showcased their shared passion for Celtic Football Club, with each member sporting different versions of the team’s iconic green and white colours.
Several family members chose jerseys from different eras, with Renee opting for a nostalgic 1989-91 season home jersey, while Alastair wore one from the 2013-14 season.
Sean Stewart made a particularly striking appearance, pairing a white vest that displayed his tattoos with a traditional green and blue tartan kilt and matching cap.
His girlfriend Julia Stambler coordinated with his look, also wearing a tartan kilt and cap alongside a black vest.
Penny Lancaster styled her Celtic top with white shorts and a white cap featuring a black X embellishment.
The family’s commitment to the Celtic theme extended to accessories, with Sean completing his ensemble with a green and white striped Celtic scarf.
Ruby Stewart added a splash of colour to her Celtic shirt by pairing it with yellow shorts.
The celebrations come as Stewart prepares for a milestone performance at Glastonbury Festival, where he will take the coveted Sunday teatime legends slot on the Pyramid Stage.
Despite recently beginning his final Las Vegas residency, Stewart remains defiant about continuing to perform well into his later years.
“I’m aware my days are numbered but I’ve got no fear,” he said.
