Lauren Oakley explains reason for tearful video as BBC Strictly star describes ‘beautiful’ JB Gill moment
Strictly Come Dancing star Lauren Oakley explained why she had broken down in tears during rehearsals as she described a special moment with JLS star JB Gill.
The couple, who at the weekend made it through to the quarter-final of the BBC competition, appeared on Tuesday’s spin-off show, It Takes Two.
Host Fleur East addressed a video posted on Gill’s Instagram which showed Oakley sitting on the floor in tears.
She played the clip for viewers, in which Gill can be heard asking: “What are you doing?”
Oakley responded, wiping away tears: “I’m emotional,” before Gill asked her why.
“Because you did really good,” the dancer replied as she sobbed.
A triumphant Gill then turned his face to the camera, stating: “I did good guys, I did good.”
“You did so good, you looked proper,” Oakley, who replaced professional Amy Dowden and Gill’s dancer partner earflier in the series when the latter had to step away due to medical issues.
Back on It Takes Two, Oakley explained to East: “That came after we watched…
“We filmed the run-though and then we watched back and it just made me emotional because he looked proper.”
Seeming moved as she spoke, she reflected: “What is really nice is that you know that your partner is doing the right things when you can do the right things as well.
“I was getting my shape because he gave me the frame, and it was just a beautiful moment and it made me cry.”
The pair where then asked about their near-perfect score from Saturday night, with Gill admitting: “It wasn’t that I was expecting 40, Craig has high standards and we know that already.
“He had said, not in response to me, but he said that he is going to give a 10 to what he feels draws him in and takes him away from all of the steps on the judging and the numbers and that sort of thing.”
“Of course, that was the aim,” he went on to confess, adding: “We wanted to put in a performance where he didn’t have to worry about steps and so on and so forth.
“Of course, it is a waltz, so maybe there is footwork to check and you know, thumbs to look out for.”
The latest episode saw Montell Douglas and dance partner Johannes Radebe eliminated in a move which sparked a furious “fix” row.
