Tasha Ghouri reveals implant struggle during BBC Strictly despite landing perfect 40: ‘I was screaming’
Strictly Come Dancing star Tasha Ghouri admitted she struggled with the spins during their American Smooth on Saturday night due to her cochlear implant.
On Saturday night, Ghouri and partner Aljaz Skorjanec received the first perfect score of the series, with Ballas praising their “beautiful” dance.
She exclaimed: “Here we see the Rolls Royce of the Amercian Foxtrot. What can I say? Absolutely fantastic. I have no words; you leave me with no words.”
Pointing to Anton Du Beke, she revealed: “He was crying, just so you know. He was actually crying. First time I’ve ever seen you with a tear and you were very emotional.”
Confirming his emotional state, Du Beke added: “This is what it’s all about. It just makes me go this is why we dance. This is the point.
“We do it because of the way it makes us feel. You’re extraordinary to watch, this is what it’s all about. I watched you dance and I tried to find something I didn’t like and I couldn’t, I liked it all.”
Motsi Mabuse declared: “I have only one word to say: perfection,” before Craig Revel Horwood lauded: “One word: fab-u-lous!”
The couple joined It Takes Two host Fleur East tonight to discuss their score, with the Love Island star noting: “It felt like an out-of-body experience. All I remember seeing was Craig’s one zero came up, me and you just looked at each other with the biggest shock on our faces.
“We never expected it at all and everyone was going, literally having a party, I could see Neil’s face behind me jumping up and down, it was that fast he was blurred out, it was just amazing.
“The support was incredible and it was just an honour to get 40, it really was a moment that I will never really forget, it was just so special.”
Skorjanec added that it felt like everyone around them had also gotten a perfect score due to their supportive reaction.
East went on to discuss their tricks and spins which they incorporated into the dance, especially the last spin which stunned the audience.
She asked: “Tasha, you loved the lifts as well. You made them look so effortless, but you mentioned in the Claud-atorium that you were feeling really dizzy, how was that in rehearsals and training, how difficult was that?”
Laughing, Ghouri admitted: “I remember the first time he spun me round, I was literally screaming, he was going so fast, he said ‘I am just going to go for it’.
“And especially with my implant, it’s something that I struggle with, so what I had to do was just close my eyes so the whole time he was spinning me around my eyes were closed.
“And then I opened the for the going back into the kick, but because the ending wasn’t too wild it was ok, I could slow down a little bit.”

Giggling, Skorjanec went on to reveal: “I added in two extra rotations during the show… why not! It was a moment and I knew that, the adrenaline was going to get you back on your feet.”
“Did you open your eyes?,” East laughed before Ghouri replied: “I felt it! I thought, ok that was a little bit extra than usual!”
